Game Boy
The original Game Boy is a handheld game console released by Nintendo in 1989.
Later, successor models such as Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance were released.
① Sa・Ga2: Hihou Densetsu (Final Fantasy Legend II)
An RPG released by Square (currently Square Enix) in 1990.
It’s a story where you earnestly collect treasures known as MAGI across various stages. This was the first RPG I ever played.
② Kirby’s Dream Land
An action game released by Nintendo in 1992. Developed by HAL Laboratory.
It’s a game where you progress by inhaling enemies or inhaling air to float in the sky.
The music and sound effects are also quite well done, making it a highly rhythmic title.
③ Pokémon Red and Green
An RPG released by Nintendo in 1996. Developed by Nintendo EAD, Game Freak, and Creatures.
Afterwards, it was made into an anime and became explosively popular, but I’ve only played this first generation.
Super Famicom
A home video game console released by Nintendo in 1990. Overseas, it is also known as the SNES (Super Nintendo Entertainment System).
④ Super Mario Kart
A Super Famicom software released by Nintendo in 1992.
A racing game where you compete for rank while obstructing opponents by throwing items like shells and bananas.
I remember playing it together with family and friends.
⑤ Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride
An RPG released by Enix in 1992.
It features elements like choosing a marriage partner and making monsters you defeated into companions.
I played it extensively until I recruited multiple Liquid Metal Slimes.
⑥ Final Fantasy V
An RPG released by Square in 1992.
It features replayability elements where you choose a job and master its skills.
Similar to Dragon Quest, I remember earnestly leveling up in caves.
⑦ Torneko no Daibōken: Fushigi no Dungeon
A roguelike game released by Chunsoft in 1993.
The predecessor to the Mystery Dungeon series.
Its feature is that the layout of the dungeon randomly changes every time.
The catchphrase is “An RPG you can play 1000 times”.
⑧ Fushigi no Dungeon 2: Furai no Shiren (Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer)
A roguelike game released by Chunsoft in 1995.
The sequel to the Mystery Dungeon series’ “Torneko no Daibōken”.
There are shops inside the dungeon where you can buy items.
(If you leave the shop without paying, the shopkeeper will chase after you.)
⑨ MOTHER2 (EarthBound)
The second installment of the MOTHER series, released by Nintendo in 1994. Developed by Ape and HAL Laboratory.
Later, MOTHER3 was released in 2006. Produced by Shigesato Itoi, the work is studded with a unique worldview and philosophical words.
⑩ The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
An action-adventure game released by Nintendo in 1991.
A game where you progress by collecting various items and solving slight puzzles.

A game where you aim for victory by securing territory using ink or defeating opponents.
